Good quality. I purchased the 5" version to vent a portable A/C unit through the wall instead of out the window. Package well but basically just set in a cardboard box so if handled badly in shipment it could get smushed. The vent hose from the A/C was exactly the same size as this vent. I was hoping to slide it over and band it but no dice. For now I smushed it into the vent pipe and put a couple screws to it. Perhaps next season I'll slightly trim the vent pipe lengthwise to shrink the diameter 1/8" so the hose will slip over it... Maybe. I looked at FAMCO's site and the price of this shipped directly from them was 10 cents less, but I didn't want to mess with setting up yet another on-line profile with a business so this was fine.Pro's - shiny, no galvanized/crystal growth look, fit/finish niceCon's - none really. A very light spring on the exhaust flap to keep it closed would be nice, but not a huge deal.We have had to tape a heavy steel washer to the vent flap; otherwise it bangs whenever there is wind. The vent opens out into a window well (below ground level), so is pretty protected from the wind but this makes no difference.The product description of heavy duty 0.020 thickness aluminum is misleading. 0.020" aluminum is far too thin to use for a wall vent of this size. The product is poorly designed as follows: the bottom lip of the 12" diameter outlet pipe is level with the bottom of the hood, the damper is poorly attached with a 1" hinge that lets the damper swing sideways 3/8" or more (on both units I ordered), the damper is not rectangular or square, the damper is not spring-loaded to remain closed when not open due to air flow, the damper lacks sufficient thickness and/or stiffness to survive one winter season without permanent distortion resulting in failure to properly seal when closed, and the damper has no foam gasket so it probably would make quite a lot of noise when exposed to very slight intermittent wind conditions.I expected a much higher quality product from this manufacturer after previously purchasing and installing 2 of the FAMCO 8" galvanized hooded wall vents with a damper gasket and bird screen for a custom exhaust ventilation job.It is a wall vent made of aluminum. You can get it in sizes that are hard to find. It looks nice I am happy with it.On very windy days the flapper does move from the wind but there has only been one day with so much wind that that has happened. If you have lots of wind that may be a problem.I bought two three inch with screens and one four inch with no screen. The install was easy. The only bad, like others have said, is the constant flapping of the light vent door. I'm afraid birds can get in pretty easy on the four inch with no screen. I will have to glue a weight or something.As other reviewers have said, the damper doesn't close all the way. I installed this in my enclosed trailer as a exhaust vent for the portable AC unit. I'm sure I have this perfectly level. The damper is pretty light material, seems to have a mind of its own. None the less, I've used just a simple high quality magnet to close it when in storage or when not in use. Otherwise it does what it's supposed to.It's very well made, much nicer than the plastic units. Also this is much nicer to look at than the plastic vents. The price will knock you over, but the class factor meakes it worth it.Shipped quickly and was just as i expected. The damper could be a little larger, it barely covers the opening. Other than that this is a great product that i would recommend to anyone trying to add a nice touch to a project.
